Fear of loosing fame and popularity

Fear of losing fame and popularity
Wise words from Logan Smith teaches us that `there are two things to aim at in life.First, to get what you want; and, after that, to enjoy it.Only the wisest of mankind achive the second`.There are so many people who have surpassed their own expections by becoming top runners in their chosen professions yet they are not happy-music industry for example is notorious for drug overdoses and suicides amongst stars at the peak of their carreers –look at Micheal Hutchence a famous lead singer and main lyricist with INXS for more than 20 years-he took his own life at the height of his career but died a legend.Jimi Hendrix a famous guitalist killed himself by taking an overdose-he also died a legend.Kurt Cobain lead singer of Vivvana shot himself and joined the long and growing list of mucic legends-They all died whilst at the top-still young with so much to live for.Their happiness relied on remaining at the top not fame and money.Future uncertinity paralsed them with fear of losing their popularity and they choose to die famous than live to see their popularity gone!

The world of tennis was shocked by Justine Henin-Hardenne abrupt retirement .Through her hand work focus and determination 26 years old Justine Henin found herself at the top of world of tennis .She was not so tall not so strong but she was the world number one! She has been the dominant player in women`s tennis since winning her first title at Roland Garros in 2003, finishing as the year end number 1 three times .Henin rallied to win her third straight title at Roland Garros and then, after an inexplicable loss to Marion Bartoli in the semi-finals at Wombledon ran away from the field. She won her last five tournaments in 2007,including the U.S open and the season –ending tour championships in Mardrid finishing with 25-0 and number one ranking-one would be wrong to conclude it wasn’t a perfect season for her! She becomes the first woman to win $ 5 million in a single year.

Her terrific effort come along with a price .Her entire 2008 clay –court resume heading into Roland Garros consisted of just two matches, and the second an ugly loss to Dinara Safina in Berlin, this fortold the impending future-in a postmatch press conference she was quoted saying `I don`t have any real explanation for my poor performance,Iam missing something, but it,s not physical .Iam less fired up .I dug too deep into my reserves last year` -despite winning her first tournament in , Henin hit the wall in Melbourne, after winning 33 consecutive matches she lost badly to Maria Sharapova in Australia open quarter-finals (6-4,6-0) she was then beaten in straight set tie breakers by Francesca Schiavone in Dubai quarterfinals and then embarrassed by Serena Williams (6-2 6-0) at Miami quarterfinal-she marked her worst game outing in that season!

One of the most tenacious player ever Henin will not be defending her three time French open crown.Henin choose to retire young and famous –perhaps the fear of loosing this fame and populariry pushed her to announce her retirement which shocked many-she was adored by millions of fans whilst at the top –perhaps if she continued, this could have been robbed off from her-she understood one thing and understood it well. She could not keep this fire burning and refused to accept the thought of being moved away from world number one.She knew this was coming and decided to retire and retire a legend!
